Being somewhat creative leaning growing up, I always had a sense that there was some logic to how you display things to be “appealing” but daaaang – there’s a social science to it alright!
I wasn’t until I moved from the cake counter to another counter that I started to get shown just how seeing food on a display can entice someone more than packaging usually can.
But that’s for another chapter…. for now: yikes

Flori towers over the kneeling Ash. She gestures a manicured nail over to the display case before them. "If you have worked on the counter before, then you should see that this layout is not up to standard! Take this for example:"
She points to a messy pile of pieces of chocolate biscuit tiffin.
"Why have you stacked so many out like this?
A disorganised selection of cheesecake slices scattered with crumbs.
"It's cluttered! And there's crumbs everywhere!"
A plate of tarts next to a visible handprint.
"Here, your fingerprints smeared along the side."
Three jam eclair donuts, one of which is on it's edge.
"here it looks like you just threw three out which is not appealing at all."
The entire display counter is before them, with Ash's glum expression mirrored as she continues her feedback.
"Put products in groups so customers can find the eclairs instead of having to search everywhere for them."
Ash fidgets defensively. "Well, I have only closed down te counter when it's nearly empty..."
Flori turns away, her glasses hiding her expression. "Ah this all makes sense now. You'll have to have more set ups to learn."
Ash ponders. "That's true. But she doesn't mince her words! Guess I better hop to it!"
