This may not excuse Damian’s way of talking to people in his job and outside of it, but i hope it makes him understandable. You don’t know what a coworker or staff member or anyone you meet has going on in the background.
Truths wrapped around fear and anger, indistinguishable from each other and now all just as damaging.
(In other news, I am at ThoughtBubble convention in Harrogate next weekend 16th to 17th with my friendo and comic creator Shizamura! Come visit if you are in the area! I’ll have volume 1 in print there!

His mother is behind him, only her expression showing as stern. "Damian! I need to know when you are working next week!"
Damian nervously smiles in fake innocence. "I - er- yeah i know."
His mother is visibly irritated."I know very well you forgot again."
Damian's shoulders tense up as he grips his glass cup. "I'm sorry, i just had a busy day and it slipped my mind."
His mother continues. "I had a busy day too and i still remembered to do everything! And you weren't the only one to have a bad day either, thanks for asking!"
Damian's expression drops, with a single thought lingering. FUCK.
"At least tell me you had longer breaks!"
Damian twirls the food with his fork. "Yes. I took breaks."
His mother is in frame but her expression still hidden apart from anger. "Did you?"
Damian tenses up again. "yes!" He then doesn't meet her gaze as she continues: "You've been at work for fourteen hours! You better have, D. And Kevin better pay you the full amount for the hours you did this time! And not deduct you for the breaks!"
She looms over him, making him appear small in his chair. He has not touched his dinner. "Damian, you let them walk all over you, every single time. I just worry about you. Now, you better finish up your dinner and head to bed soon."
