I realise after finishing several pages that i have never drawn the married characters with wedding bands. Pretend Khara keeps hers in her locker, ok? She has a second hubby and they are happy – just trust me on this. I only have so much time for comic so I cannot promise I will ever mention this organically in the script 😊
Verity is happily single.

Khara asks Ash directly: “Are you working some shifts between your exams?”
Ash looks awkwardly away. “Oh no no, I finished school a year ago and i erm - I’m not at uni.”
Khara begins to sort out some stock from the boxes. “Aaaah I see I see. I was expecting more uni students to be picking up the holiday roles, but apparently not this year.”
Ash looks down solemnly. “Well… noooo, not an option for me.”
Verity unpacks a box of cheese and passes the goods to Ash. “Uni isn’t the be all and end all of everything.I did a year and a half course on textiles before i dropped out.”
Ash takes the cheese from her. “Oh, sorry to hear that? That you dropped out, that is?”
Verity smiles softly. “I had my Ellie! I couldn’t afford both so I had to decide on uni or looking after her first. I felt I could go back in the future, but she only gets one childhood. I don’t regret dropping out!”
The tall, long haired male coworker from before stands alone at the other side of the store, looking pensively at the others as they are talking, then silently drops his gaze to the floor.
Khara continues to grab boxes from a cage. “I thought this was going to be a part time job whilst I saved for my first marriage.”
She passes some wrapped cheese to Verity. “That “part time” job has lasted me nearly, oh, 16 years?”
Verity laughs “That’s longer than our exes stuck around!”
Khara bursts into cheerful laughter too. “True! We’re more reliable than them!”
