Behold the curse of counter displays: looks amazing and could draw in customers but the regualars know what they want and rarely deviate.
From what I came to experience in the store I worked was that those who come to counters tended to specifically know what they needed product and quantity wise each week so upselling wasn’t always … easy.

Which raised the question, if regulars wanted set amounts, what was to stop them going to the prepacked aisle instead? Well it’s not helpful if you wanted sizes outside of the prepacked range though so… hmmm

Shout out to Krispy ( GJS) for using some of her art stream time to give me advice on rendering meat texture using reference UwU

Alexis is proudly showing off her bountiful display of cuts of meat: rolled beef joints of various cuts, pork leg joints, pork and lamb racks and lamb legs. Tucked to the side is large pot of reduced to clear diced beef.
Elderly female customer: Your display looks beautiful today Ali!

Alexis: Aw thanks - I don’t get to be creative like this very often but lucky for you we’ve got a promotion starting this weekend for roasting beef joints!
Female elderly customer: Oh nice! Well, we won’t be getting any this week as we’ve still got some pork leftover in the fridge -
Alexis looks on, the hope of a sale draining from her face.

Female elderly customer: But it is definitely a lovely display.
Male elderly customer: You don’t often see stores with displays like this anymore. I know the Hadies stores a few towns over already closed up last year.
His wide agrees, muttering "Such a shame."

Alexis: Yes, they were small but certainly handy. I could pick up some fish from the way back from classes.

Damian thinks to himself as he breaks out from his focus on this fish.
"Alexis fails to interest them in something else, check."
